Discourse | Okay not so much a discourse as it is a rant…

I WANTED THE GOLDSBORO SIGNED & SPRAYED EDITION OF DARKDAWN YOU GUYS BUT OF COURSE I DIDN’T GET IT!!!

Ugh I kept checking last night because Goldsboro’s vague “it will be available Friday morning UK time” was so not helpful for this here girl who is living in the US.  I checked at all the hours but had to give up and go to sleep because I was exhausted because I’ve been painting all week and will do so again today.  And finally I woke up an hour before my regular alarm, checked, and yup they had gone on sale and sold out an hour before I finally woke up.

Fml.

This wouldn’t be such an issue if I hadn’t already had the other two in the series from Goldsboro as well.  Continue reading “Discourse | Okay not so much a discourse as it is a rant…”

T.T.S.I.F | Weekly+ Update

Well my reading has been…slow lately.  Part of it is being completely burned out by work – both as a bookseller and as a lighting/set designer.  It’s all coming to a head and I just…I’m tired.

Even getting through the last audiobook of the Lux series feels like a struggle.  Which it shouldn’t?  But all I can think is “damn why is this taking so long to end?”  It made me start wondering if I prefer shorter series to longer ones.  I mean, I adored Bloodlines, which has 6 books in them, and sometimes I wish that trilogies were drawn out more, but other times I’m like – duologies are the best!  I guess it depends on the series.  Right now I just think it’s all because I’m just not in the right mindset.  At least, I hope that’s the case. Reading Slumps & Everday Life

So I think I’ve fallen into a reading slump and I only have myself to blame.

With two shows I am designing for coming up (one which I am doing the set and lights for), and doing extra work at my day job, I’ve pushed aside my reading-for-pleasure books and have tried to just focus on my ARCs and egalleys.  Which sucks because I’m a mood reader.  There have been plenty an egalley that I’ve read or DNFed that I just didn’t care for, but I knew that if I picked it up at another time in my life, I probably would enjoy a lot more.

As it is, I’m just meh about everything.  Even the one book I’m reading for myself – Opposition, the fifth book in the Lux series, and is actually an audiobook and takes up a different sort of free time – just isn’t holding my interest like it should.  I’m invested in these characters, shit is happening, I do want to know more.  But I just don’t feel like actively investing myself into it right now.

I ended up spending today mostly watching episodes of Roswell New Mexico, the new CW reboot.  I did do my job and read the script for the show I’m designing the lights for this week (don’t get me started on how that one is making me grind my teeth), but other than that?

I think my brain is just shot.

I’m actually kind of glad I turned down a gig that I was offerred for April.  I mostly turned it down because I wouldn’t have been able to get the design done in time for it, but now that I’ve reached this point, I think I need a month where my free time is just that – free.

T.T.S.I.F | An End-of-the-Week Reading Update

How is everyone doing in the reading so far?  Working on an goals yet?

I’ve managed to finish 2 series I started in 2018, although I feel like I cheated a bit because I literally started them in December and all my other series are glaring at me from my shelves…but hey it makes me feel good right?  Progress?

Anyway, I’ve finished another Lux series book and am starting on the prequel story to get some background information.  I’m still chugging through Priory (I’m only about 12% but that’s 100 pages in this gargantuan of a book.)  I’m weirdly liking it so far because it has such excellent world-building.

I finished my January egalleys (at least the ones I knew I was going to get to) and have started on my February ones with Stolen Time by Danielle Rollins.  I have a feeling I’m not going to get through all my egalleys for February either, but it’s hard to choose which ones I’m going to have to set aside because almost all of them are ones I am eager to read.

And I finally finished my reread of A Shadow Bright and Burning!!!!  I have no idea why it was such a struggle to reread that book because I loved it when I first read it.  I think it’s just my mindset – I love the series and want to finish it but don’t want to reread shit now.  I want new shit but oh look I forget what happened so….

Anyway that’s it for this week.  Sorry I missed last week cause go figure I would.

Happy reading!

T.T.S.I.F | Thank The Stars It’s Friday

Well, I said in my resolutions that I wanted to work on actual blogging some more so here we go.  I’m starting.

I should probably make a graphic for this at some point.

Anyway, some general updates in my life of reading.

Okay the first thing I have to do is promote The Executioners Three by Susan Dennard. Continue reading “T.T.S.I.F | Thank The Stars It’s Friday”

Book Challenge Declaration | Finishing the Series 2019

2019-FTS-Button-Border

Alright so I’ve decided to do it, I am going to do the Finishing the Series 2019 reading challenge (hosted by Celebrity Readers).  You can find the list of series I have started prior to 2019 that I hope to finish or catch up on before the end of the year here, which is where I will also be keeping track of the challenge.  I’ve added a lot of series, many of which I started in 2018 actually, but I also cut back my goal to the C-list level of finishing 1-4 series because I just failed completely at the B-list level (5-8 series) and hopefully setting a lower goal for myself will make me feel better about what I do complete.  Obviously there are more series listed than I will probably get to, but it’s nice to have choices.
