Synopsis:

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there’s this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that’s possible. Against all common sense, I’m falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

My Review:

This was definitely an entertaining sequel to Obsidian. The plot and intrigue kept me engaged and of course the moments between Katy and Daemon were excellent. I really love how well Armentrout writes the romance scenes – they do such justice to the emotions bring played out. Continue reading “Book Review | ONYX, by Jennifer L. Armentrout”

Genre: YA Sci-Fi/Romance
My Rating: ★★★★☆ (4 out of 5 stars)

Synopsis:

When 17-year-old Katy Swartz moved to West Virginia right before her senior year, she’d pretty much resigned herself to thick accents, dodgy Internet access, and a whole lot of boring, but then she spotted her hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up…until he opened his mouth.

Daemon Black is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. It’s hate at first sight, but when a stranger attacks her and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens. The hot guy next door? Well, he’s an alien.

Turns out that Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities and Katy is caught in the crosshairs. Daemon’s touch has lit her up like the Vegas Strip and the only way she’s getting out of this alive is by sticking close to him until her alien mojo fades. That is, if she doesn’t kill him first.

But with my friend being obsessed with this series and so many others loving it, I finally decided to give it a try when I found it as an audiobook on Hoopla.  It is safe to say I enjoyed it a lot. My Review:

I listened to this book as an audiobook, and while it was interesting in some places, I didn’t quite connect with it all the time. The characters are certainly interesting and diverse, and the setting definitely unique, but there were just so many moments when I felt like it would never end. Even some of the high-action and tense scenes had me kind of wishing it would move a little faster. Continue reading “Book Review | TOXIC, by Lydia Kang”
