Monthly Wrap-Up

July 2017 | Books Read This Month

This month I sadly only managed to read 5 books, and only one of which works for Beat the Backlist (Twefth Night).  Three were egalleys and one was a reread.

The books I enjoyed most were definitely Twefth Night and The Last Magician.  TN was yet another Shakespearian comedy I loved, and TLM slowly dug its nails into until I was completely in love by the end.  I’m hoping to get more read this month, especially since I have a lot of egalleys and ARCs to get through…

The Woodby Chelsea Bobluski

On Sale Date: August 1, 2017

**I received this as an e-galley from Feiwel & Friends through Edelweiss in return for an honest review.**

My Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3 out of 5 stars)

Synopsis:

After her father goes missing in the woods that they protect, Winter tries to seek the truth in what happened, why the wood is changing, and what it all has to do with the arrival of a mysterious stranger in this thrilling YA debut.

When Winter’s dad goes missing during his nightly patrol of the wood, it falls to her to patrol the time portals and protect the travelers who slip through them. Winter can’t help but think there’s more to her dad’s disappearance than she’s being told.

She soon finds a young man traveling in the wood named Henry who knows more than he should. He believes if they can work together to find his missing parents, they could discover the truth about Winter’s dad.

The wood is poisoned, changing into something sinister—torturing travelers lost in it. Winter must put her trust in Henry in order to find the truth and those they’ve lost.

#24in48 Update

So I read for about 6 hours and 48 minutes today, but considering I only just found out about this read-a-thon this morning, I am going to go ahead and be okay with that.  Also I got distracted midway through when my LitJoyCrate arrived and I ended up doing an unboxing.

Anyway, I read The Wood by Chelsea Bobulski, and got to about 82% done with it (I started the day at 10%).  I have about an hour left according to my Kindle reading time calculator, but I’m getting tired and easily distracted so I’m just going to go to sleep and finish it tomorrow (I also have work in the morning so there’s that too).  I was originally really intrigued by the story in The Wood, but the relationship drama was a little predictable from the get-go, so that’s kind of making me a little disinterested in it.

Anyway, that’s all I did for the read-a-thon unfortunately.  I might get a few more hours in tomorrow, but I’m working an 8 hour shift so I doubt it will be much if I do.
